As reported by Garth Franklin on Dark Horizons
Matthew McConaughey is rumored to be the front runner for Marvel's early 2011 superhero project "The First Avenger: Captain America" reports Cinema Blend.
The character's real name is Steve Rogers, a sickly young man who was enhanced to the peak of human perfection by an experimental serum in order to aid the United States war effort during the Second World War.
The character remains one of the few of Marvel's most popular characters yet to have been turned into a feature film. In many ways it still faces much difficulty due to the nature of the uber-patriotic character in a modern world which has become more critical of American imperialism than before.
The solution seems to be repositioning the character and placing the emphasis on his role as the leader of 'The Avengers'. The character will team up with Iron Man, Hulk and Thor in that film opening a few weeks later in July 2011.

NO. NO. NO. NO. NO.
"All right, all right, all right. That's what I love about these sidekicks, man. I get older, they stay the same age."
I'm with Kyle. NO.
What Kyle said.
Hell NO.
NO!
And has everyone forgotten about this film masterpiece: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0103923/
Although McConaughey wasn't bad in Reign of Fire (hey, I liked it!) I don't see him donning the suit and shield of Steve Rogers. However I'm at a loss as to who could actually fill the role...any ideas?
I may be asking for a verbal beating, but even though I'm not a George Clooney fan exactly, I think he would be the best.
Why? Well, you need someone who is not a pretty-boy, a little older, and who looks like he could have been around in WWII (a little rugged and weathered).
You see what I mean? Any suggestions of any other ruddy looking dudes who would have the chops?
I think George Clooney would be the first one to die laughing at your suggestion. He's never doing a superhero movie again.
What about one of NBC's Gladiators - you know, they gay looking one that cracks his neck in the commercials?
Short of that, I'm thinking Thomas Jane, Viggo Mortenson, even Aaron Eckhart - but they're all taken or soured on the comic movie experience.
What's Dolph Lundgren up to these days?
O,k, ok, ok, stop hurling tomatoes! :)
I hear you on Viggo, I think that would be good.
I think McConaughey wouldn't be a bad option. When he cleans up, he has the chin and the hair already.
Pasting a link (you'll have to paste it together, stupid blogger):

He could also do a good Flash, I'd think.
