Riddle Me This, Bird Brain...

There have been rumors of this, but a recent interview with Michael Caine lends some credibility.

It would seem the next Batman movie will have Johnny Depp stepping in as The Riddler, and Philip Seymour Hoffman as The Penguin.

I think, like Heath Ledger, these are brilliant choices. These are two of the best method actors in the business, and should continue the great tradition in casting that the first two movies started. Except for Joey Potter (ick). I think Nolan had a crush.

What do you think?

I was really hoping that it would be Anthony Michael Hall as the Riddler. But anything that Johnny Depp is in is pure gold so I suppose that's a decent choice. They have some time as he's currently filming the new Alice in Wonderland with Tim Burton.

I think the fact that Hall was already in TDK, as a character not named Nigma, probably killed the chances of him coming back.

These films have stayed fairly true to established canon, at least with regards to who the characters are.

Although I was a little confused when there were no MCU cops named Montoya and Bullock in the latest film.

Depp as the Riddler?
Awesome choice!

Hoffman as Penguin, though?
I like him, but I'll wait until I see it.

PSH has declined interest in the role of The Penguin. I think I read that yesterday on /film.
